The following topics were discussed in the framework of the roundtable: principles of academic integrity in Kazakhstani universities; developing the quality of the academic journals in Kazakhstan; the process of entering Scopus and Web of Science databases for Kazakhstani journals.
The list of speakers included Aliya Ospanova, Elsevier Regional Director for Central Asia; Ali Takhmazov, Plagiat.pl Executive Director; as well as representatives from the Al-farabi Kazakh National University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, “Narxoz” University, UIB, Satbayev University, Asfendiyarov KazNMU, and KazNAU.

The Research and Development department organized winter research seminars from 14th - 15th of January 2019 with internal and external experts. The aim of the seminars was to develop research skills. The program included the following topics:
- Web of Science platform and author’s publication strategy (article search and how to publish a paper in an international journal)
- Finalizing a research topic and choosing an appropriate academic journal and conference for publication
- Research methodology: Qualitative research methods
- The use of Springerlink platform for research publications, how to avoid black-listed journals and publish in high-impact journals
- Literature review and the use of peer-reviewed sources
- Research methodology: Quantitative research methods
- Code of ethics in academic research: case studies
- Open discussion regarding research interests and ideas (in English language)
