Deputy Akim of Astana and Yerzhan Tatishev Foundation awarded educational grants for innovative specialties at AlmaU

September 21, 2018 at Almaty Management University, presentation of grants from the Akim of Astana city and "Yerzhan" foundation named after E. Tatishev took place.

Grants were handed over by the deputy akim of Astana, Yermek Amanshaev, and a member of the Board of Trustees of  “Yerzhan” foundation named after E.Tatishev, a member of AlmaU Board of Trustees Erkin Tatishev.

48 grants for training at AlmaU on innovative specialties: "Business administration in the field of entrepreneurship" and "Business Analytics and Big Data" became the contribution of Astana akimat in profession of future. Having mastered new specialties, students will have to serve out a grant within 3 years after graduation. This stimulates development of Astana as "SMART CITY" and one of the most advanced business cities in the country.

"Business Administration in the field of entrepreneurship" program  is aimed at training specialists with entrepreneurial thinking, able to create business from zero, develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region. Specialists in Business Analytics and Big Data are a new type of professionals in the field of business intelligence and big data, who also have knowledge in business, management, economics, mathematics and related sciences.

About specialties of future, for which grants were allocated, the rector of AlmaU Gulmira Kurganbaeva said in her welcome speech:

"2018 can be called special for  Kazakhstan education. In March of this year, in the framework of 5 social initiatives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an additional 20,000 educational grants were awarded to 54 thousand allocated annually. This is a serious opportunity and a chance for a large number of entrants and their parents! And such an initiative for our city is especially important. It is very pleasant that Astana, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, makes long-term investments in  education and economy of the country, in  professions of  future! "

In conclusion of her speech, the rector of AlmaU made an unusual gift to Astana in honor of its 20th anniversary - the crystal Apple of Knowledge, a symbol of the university and the city: "Universities, first of all, must export knowledge. So let me give you this Apple of Knowledge! Let it become a symbol of our contribution to development of the capital! ".

Deputy akim of Astana Yermek Amanshaev congratulated the holders of grants and noted that allocation of grants by the capital to students of experimental specialties meets the goals of transformation of Astana into Smart City.

"I know that today the students who received the Astana akimat grants are already studying the development strategy of the capital, investigating issues and topics that our city faces in its development, and intend to offer innovative projects of an applied nature which will help Astana to become a SMART city, the capital of innovations. And it's great that from the first days of your studies you are aimed to solve practical, priority tasks", E. Amanshaev said.

Also, within the framework of Astana akim’s visit , a member of the Board of Trustees of “Yerzhan” Foundation named after E. Tatishev, Erkin Tatishev presented grants for "BesTirek" program to six winners of the contest. The speech of Erkin Nureldaemovich, as always, was imaginative and inspiring. First, he, as a member of the Board of Trustees of AlmaU, expressed gratitude to the current akim of the capital for support of education, and then told about activities of the fund, which during its existence issued 117 grants. According to Tatishev, selection of candidates by the fund is very strict, but there is a result: today many former grant-holders became strong professionals with a reputation, successfully build a career and develop Kazakhstan.

After awarding grants to 54 lucky winners, a grateful word on behalf of grant holders was given by Bulat Tagiyev, a student of the 1 st year of "Business Administration in Entrepreneurship" specialty.

For the delegation from Astana akimat and representatives of the Department of Education of the city of Astana, an excursion was conducted on the campus of the university and a presentation of Student Projects Card.

The silver medalist of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, the silver medalist of the World Cup, the two-time World Cup winner, two-time European champion Serik Konakbayev became an honored guest of the Gala Ceremony.

2018 is a jubilee year for Almaty Management University: in December the university celebrates its 30th anniversary. It is symbolic that AlmaU, as a driver of entrepreneurial education in Kazakhstan, became one of 13 universities to which Astana Akimat allocated more than 1000 grants.
