Winter School Diaries: Fifth day

January 12, the last day of the winter school "Modern University: access to a new audience."

This day Almagul Kangatova spoke summing up the results of the winter school. The participants of the winter school also made acceptance speeches. Some of them even noted that they will definitely return and with their children for admission to the university.

AlmaU Rector Gulmira Kurganbaeva began her speech with an easy exercise to relax tension. Gulmira Amanzholovna announced unexpected news that they would personally come at each of the educational institutions of the participants to held a certificate presentation ceremony. After that, she conducted a psychological exercise, where each participant painted himself as he sees and feels himself, then everyone wrote his wish on the back of a neighbor.

Such a familiar, unfamiliar A.B

That was the name of the traditional “AlmaU Living Room”, which became the final ceremony of XXIII Winter School. As you, probably, already guessed - the founder and the president of Almaty Management University, Assylbek Kozhakhmetov was the guest of the program presented by Irina Khan.

So much has been written about him, so much is known about him, and so much remains unknown. That is why Irina Khan asked a number of questions that, according to Irina Gurienva, reveal Assylbek Bazarbaevich from the other side. One of the questions was: “Why did you twist your fortune with education?”.

“Today, if you are talking about education, in general, if you look at the end of 18 years everything was getting ruined, that is, I worked in the state university, department of continuous environment as a researcher, but at the same time there was a new wind of changes: the laws of cooperation, restructuring. I thought what to do. Some guys started to sell sneakers, well, for example, my brother. And in principle, he lived much better than me. Then they started selling computers, so this “buy-sell” was very good. But the worst was in education. That's what I told myself. What to deal with? It was clear that science would not go, it would not bring anything. And then I thought: if I want to prove something to the world, it is necessary to take the most difficult and do something from the most difficult. Well, if it works, then no one will have any doubt that this is the real vocation, the real person and the real result. Therefore, I said education, no matter how it collapsed, no matter how it goes, it means that I must deal with education!” - Assylbek Kozhakhmetov.

“I would really like you to voice a passage from an interview where you talk about education and compare it with mountains.” - Irina Khan.

“Education is like mountains. When you go uphill, you see a mountain - here it is cool, shining. You think: now I will climb and realize my dream. You are going up hard, have a rest and finally, overcoming yourself, you come up the mountain. You come up on a mountain and suddenly even higher view opens from this mountain. It turns out that the mountain was standing even higher, more interesting, but it was not seen because of this mountain, it cannot be seen without climbing this mountain. You will climb the next mountain, and you will see the next mountain. The same in education. I like the expression: the more you know - the more you don't know. Being down you do not understand that it turns out you needed something else. Therefore, having read one book, you need to read 10 more. ”- Assylbek Kozhakhmetov.

“Does the knowledge of languages necessarily determine a person’s place?” - Irina Khan

"All depends on the person. I believe that there are two types of people: on the gender principle, and the national principle. I think that a person is either a national patriot or a cosmopolitan. There is no middle ground! A national patriot means you want to live in some particular nation, you feel good there, your relatives are there and you like the food there, the language is there, the air is there. The second is a cosmopolitan, who says: in general, it doesn't matter to me where to live or with which people, provide good ecology, education for children, give me health, give career growth. And that's fine. A cosmopolitan - I do not mean bad - just other. Each person must determine who he is! ”

And this is only part of an exciting and entertaining interview of Irina Khan with Assylbek Kozhakhmetov. For the guests it was a great completion of the winter school, from which, according to them, they have tasted new fruits of knowledge and are ready to share this knowledge further!
