The World Bank and AlmaU held a joint event on the topic "Breaking Stereotypes and Promoting Equality in Central Asia"

On March 4, 2022, an event was held, initiated and organized by the regional division of the World Bank, on the topic "Breaking Stereotypes and Promoting Equality in Central Asia" on the basis of AlmaU.

Students of the School of Hospitality and Tourism of AlmaU, teachers and employees of the University, together with representatives of the World Bank, held a discussion on gender equality, considered topics on professional competencies, individual abilities and career opportunities. The event was based on the trends in the formation of an equal society, the creation of a more accessible and high-quality range of educational services; as well as the peculiarities of the influence of gender stereotypes. The World Bank presented the vision for the future generation of Central Asia and many other topical issues during the session, as well as on social networks after the event.

• Akmaral Tursunova - Lawyer, co-founder of Public Foundation “MedSupportkz”, Kazakhstan.

On the same day, representatives of the World Bank and AlmaU held a bilateral meeting on partnership and cooperation. From the World Bank, the meeting was attended by - Regional Director for Central Asia of the World Bank Proskuryakova T. and Senior Operations Officer - Suzy H. Yoon-Yildiz; from AlmaU - Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships Kaumenova A., Vice-Rector for Science Sarkeev B., Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation Tomanov M., Director of the International Development Department Nurgazina A. and Head of the International Development Department Nelidova D. The parties noted the importance of gender equality and access to education. In 2020-2021, the proportion of students at AlmaU was 58% women. At the moment, there is a high proportion of women working as teachers, staff and management of the University. AlmaU has close partnerships with the World Bank. Since February 2019, Almaty Management University and the Tajik State University of Commerce have jointly implemented the project “Providing technical assistance in the development and implementation of a quality management system at the Tajik State University of Commerce”, funded by the World Bank. This project has become a new stage in the development of education in the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as deepening partnerships between the two countries. For two years, AlmaU experts provided consulting support and conducted training seminars for colleagues from Tajikistan.
