System engineering for architects of the future world
A system approach to manage knowledge and information was the topic discussed at the regular seminar of International Summer school. The speaker was Vyacheslav Kondratyev, Professor of the Department of problems control of Moscow Physical-Technical University, head of R&D center of the faculty of radio engineering and cybernetics, the bestseller author of "7 notes of management: a reference book of a manager".
The audience learnt more about the standards of engineering education, the main principle of which is the rule of "invent, develop, and apply". All types of engineering in the world are combined into one type – system engineering, i.e. management, the action order of an engineer of any activity sphere. And according to Vyacheslav Vladimirovich, every manager must know the basics of system engineering.
System engineering is very actively studied in various countries. For example, in the US, about 48 universities teach system engineering. Having vast professional experience in various fields – from space exploration to cybernetics – Vyacheslav Vladimirovich in his time organized the training of this discipline in Russia. Specialists, who study system engineering, get knowledge, including design-thinking, skills not only to make projects but also to develop them, implement and upgrade. Such specialists are architects of the future world.
System engineering can be applied in any business. In the management of any business there is a large amount of information, in old management this problem was solved by trying to make the information smaller and more compact. But still the amount of information increased and enterprises were losing control. Main solution is to use information technology (IT), create information systems which will improve productivity. Using this system it is possible to systemize any data; to assess past, present, future and make the best decision.
An important element of system engineering is management of knowledge. Without effective management of knowledge, managers either re-create a product that was already created before them or cannot see a new direction based on old concept about the product.
It is worth noting that the topic of engineering was chosen to study in seminars of the Summer school for a good reason. Almaty Management University announced that from a new academic year for the first time in Kazakhstan a unique School of engineering management is opened. This year applicants who have successfully passed the UNT/CT with physics as a profile subject, can enter AlmaU on one of two new specialties: Software Engineering and Business Analytics and big data.
