QS Global MBA Rankings 2023: General MBA among the best in the world

On September 29, 2022, QS revealed the QS Global MBA Ranking 2023, which included the best MBA programs in the world. Graduate School of Business AlmaU is the only business school in Kazakhstan in the ranking for the 4th year in a row!

General MBA program is in the top 250 in the world and among top 40 in Asia, maintaining its status of the best global business school in Central Asia.

Out of 300 MBA programs from all over the world, holding Triple Crown accreditations, the General MBA program of the Graduate School of Business AlmaU is ranked #201-250. The program received the highest score for its Class and Faculty Diversity and came closest to the global average among participants in Entrepreneurship & Alumni Outcomes, which indicates that the faculty and students’ profile on the General MBA program comply with international standards of business education.

QS Global MBA Ranking ranks the strongest MBA programs around the world. Its methodology is aimed at identifying business schools whose programs have strong connections with the industry, offer value for money for education, graduates demonstrate career progression and salary growth as a result of the program.

The main indicators of the ranking are Employability, Return on Investment, Entrepreneurship & Alumni Outcomes, Thought Leadership and Class & Faculty Diversity. 100% of the total score is made from:

  • 40% Employability (40%): Employer Reputation Index (35%) is an employability metric based on responses from tens of thousands of global employers over the last five years. Employment rate of recent graduates (5%) is the percentage of graduates which accepted job offers three months post graduation.
  • 15% Return on Investment (20%): 10 Year ROI (15%) is a measure of average return on investment for specific business schools based on factors such as tuition levels, opportunity costs, salary growth, and expected career progression. Payback Month (5%) is the time it would take for the graduate to pay back their investment.
  • 20% Entrepreneurship & Alumni Outcomes (15%): Alumni Outcomes (10%) is the QS Alumni Outcomes Index that looks at the schools and universities associated with thousands of successful alumni (CEO’s, entrepreneurs, influencers). Entrepreneurship (5%) is the percentage of graduates which go on to start their own business within three months after graduation.
  • 15% Thought Leadership (15%): Academic Reputation Index (10%) is an academic metric based on responses from over 200,000 academics in 60 countries around the world. Research Impact (2.5%) measures faculty productivity in specific academic fields as tracked by SCOPUS data. PhD Faculty (2.5%) is the percentage of the Business School Faculty with PhDs.
  • 10% Class & Faculty Diversity (10%): Gender Balance – Students (2.5%) is the percentage of the class who are women. Gender Balance – Faculty (2.5%) is the percentage of the Business School Faculty who are women. International Mix – Number of Nationalities (2.5%) is the number of nationalities in the classroom. International Mix – Faculty (2.5%) is the percentage of the Business School Faculty who are international.

In 2022, 300 programs were ranked and divided into regional segments:

  • United States: 116 programs
  • Canada: 22 programs
  • Europe: 79 programs
  • Asia: 43 programs
  • Latin America: 11 programs
  • Oceania: 16 programs
  • Middle East & Africa: 16 programs

In 2021, the ranking included 286 business schools from 45 countries, in 2020 - 258, in 2019 – 240, in 2018 – 232. Over 5 years, the number of participants has increased by 30%.

Besides the QS Global MBA ranking, QS World University Rankings publishes rankings for EMBA and Master's degree programs in management, finance, business analytics and marketing. Together, the above-mentioned rankings cover master's programs, graduates of which will be most in demand among employers around the world.

Triple Crown Business Accreditations - to be included in the QS Global MBA ranking, a business school must:

  • Have either AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS or EPAS accreditation. We also allow schools which have rated at least 3 or more QS Stars (AACSB – 950 business schools, AMBA – 290 business schools, EQUIS – 207 business schools, EFMD Accredited - 137 business schools, 117+ business schools in the world have the Triple Crown of accreditations).
  • Have an average class size of least 20 students.
  • Have at least one graduating class.
  • Programs must be offered face-to-face
  • Classes should be taught Full-time or FTE
