Charity Awards: the authors of the best social projects were awarded!
Solemn awarding ceremony of the “Charity Awards” charitable student award according to the results of the Service Learning project was held on December 15, 2015 in Kinoplexx Sary Arka! The project was launched in Almaty Management University in September this year.
The new discipline of Service Learning was introduced to the 1st year students’ curriculum of all specialties. As part of the subject, students were learning to serve the community, and to apply their knowledge in practice through working in nursing homes, at homes for the disabled and in other social organizations. Introduction of the course meets the policy of the University aimed at training qualified business area specialists, who are deeply aware of their civil and social responsibilities.
Moreover, the students not only had to help social organizations in their work, but also they had to initiate, to prepare, and to implement their own social projects. In ideal, those projects would optimize the work of volunteer organizations. The results of the program were so impressive that at the end of the 1st semester, it was decided to award distinguished students in the field of serving the society.
Five nominations were established under the “Charity Awards” project.
In the nomination “There is an opinion” (projects that study various issues of public life and foregrounding of public opinion are awarded) students who were recognized the best in “Public Relations” and “Regional studies”: Aruzhan Akynova, Aidana Nuralina, Shyray Kabylbek, Camila Kylyshbayeva, Aidana Tolebayeva, Sabira Taizhanova and Dina Nurkamasheva. The president of public fund “Aman-Saulyk” Bakhyt Tumenova presented certificates and steles to the students.
According to the guest, the students gave a very substantial aid to the fund while completing this project: “Our public fund is dedicated to the protection of patients' rights – those are the elderly people, often disabled by illness. It was important for us to come to know how their needs and problems have changed in connection with the economic crisis, whether they can buy the medications they need. It was important to interview them and, according to this selection, to make a report for the press, for the Ministry of Healthcare so that it would determine what are the problem areas and what to work on. We would not be able to do it, we have a very small team. However, thanks to you, in a relatively short time a survey on 700 elderly people was conducted, we are processing the received data at the moment, and soon all the information will be made available to the Ministry, thank you very much for this!” - B.Tumenova said.
The head of “Aman-Saulyk” foundation also noted that AlmaU is the first to introduce the discipline of “Public Service” in Kazakhstan: “I am honored that you have chosen our organization to work together. I believe this experience will benefit students (future businesspersons, public officials), because only with the partnership of non-governmental organizations, the government and business a strong law-governed state with a social, human face can be build”, - she concluded.
In the category “Life is Movement” projects related to the development of sport and physical activity among people with disabilities in physical and mental development intended to win. As the best project was announced the project of students of "Gastronomy and hotel business" and "Logistics" specialties: Altyn Sergalieva, Timur Mansurov, Aisha Ygylan, Umit Sarsenbekova, Sarsenali Erlanuly, Shyngys Ualikhan.
The students received steles and certificates from Elvira Saparova, the deputy chairman of the public association "APDC" (Association of Parents of Disabled Children) and Galina Ilina, the director of the Almaty branch of NGO Special Olympics Kazakhstan, where the students implemented their projects.
Elvira Saparova mentioned that guys supported a lot sick kids-because, they worked at remedial therapy of rehabilitation chamber during the semester, worked with disabled children by special physical training, arranged for them fall ball, concert and other interesting events.
Galina Ilina point out that their wards felt through students of AlmaU, such affection and caress that open mind and began to trust them: “It does not happen always, because our guys – unique and will not be very open to each person. We appreciate your warmth, sincerity and expecting prolongation of your project in upcoming year”- the guest has concluded.
At the Creative Category “Onerpaz” participated projects that addressed to the development of creative skills, self -enrichment and promotion a positive and good mood in people with disabilities.The victory was been awarded to the students project, majoring in “Accounting and Auditing” and “Management”. Among the winners: Sabina Khamit, Aigerim Kairat, Saltanat Anarbekkyzy, Alua Nurkhatova, Aiym Mukhaetzhanova, Indira Dosbayeva, Altyn Konysova, Aizhan Ibaidulla, Nazerke Zhbalova, Imangul Konysbayeva, Gulzat Begimbetova, Zhansaya Isabay, Kamshat Tazhikulova, Galiya Kairatkyzy and Botagoz Serik.
The guys have been worked with people with disabilities and kids with supporting-motor apparatus violation at “Kenes” association of disabled people and specialized boarding school #2.
The winners in this category were students majoring in “Marketing”: Dantil Kim, Kim Angela, Samalbek Aidana, Mamanova Bota, Shaikalieva Albina, Kasymkhanov Alikhan, Gapparov Kamil, Merkel Vladimir, Ibrai Adilzhan. At the Category “Zhyly Alakan” encouraged projects of students, which provided direct assistance and support in need of grace and care.
The award handed over by Risaliyat Kasabekova and Trunisa Akhmentova representatives of public fund “Merciful hands». Finally, at the category “Knowledge is power”- presented projects of students, which taught their wards -kids from orphanages for computer literacy, Kazakh and English Languages, mathematics and general school curricula. The winners are students majoring in “Management” Yulia Sannikova and Adina Khodzhalakova, as well as students majoring in “Finance”, “Management”, “Accounting and Auditing” Ulpan Shonaeva, Aknara Meirash, Dana Alibekova and Gulnazira Tazhibayeva.
Nurzhamal Duisengulova Vice Rector of Academic Affairs of Alma University noted, that ceremony Charity Awards-is “The Feast of Mercy and heart festival”. Also, the representative of University lay emphasis, that introduction Service Learning subject at AlmaU has supported by city administration and by number of community organizations. Dean of Faculty of basic training AlmaU Assylbek Nurgabdeshov noted at his speech, that to become a leader and to be successful, students must have four kinds of intelligence, one of them- emotional and it can be developed only through practice: “When we started our project, our aim was to convey to the young generation the unshakeable value, among of them is to help in need, respect elders, social activisim. After 10 years our students will lead companies and corporations, and I believe that they will carry through the years the values which we lay out today.
Deputy Dean of Faculty of basic training for Finance and Operating issues Laura Masanova point out that at the beginning students had a lot of questions, bewilderment: “Frankly speaking, some of them even doesn’t want to be involved at the project, because they don’t know what is it. But, at present, after completion of semester, I am sure: rare of you will say: I should not spent time for working in social project. It appears to me that you found a new features which is not even suspected before. You get a generous experience and very demanding job, which requires whole of you, not for hours, not occasionally, but be always with full dedication. My congratulations upon your successfully completion of project. You are our pioneers and you will always remain in the history of our University.
