Winter School 2020: Day 1

On January 13 in Almaty Management University, the grand opening of the Winter School 2020 took place: "Educational organizations 1.0 to 3.0: other meanings, spaces, communications."

The event was attended by school teachers and university professors from all over Kazakhstan.

For five days, the participants of the School will learn new methods of education, will be able to get answers to all questions of interest, as well as get to know their colleagues and exchange experiences.

The morning of the first day began with the registration of participants and a tour of the first interactive museum in Kazakhstan.

The program was launched by the First Vice-Rector of AlmaU Almagul Kanagatova.  In her welcoming speech, she emphasized the importance of developing education and communication skills.  And also, it was noted that for the first time in the history of all programs, the youngest participant was registered - Osipova Valeria, a student of grade 11, school number 4, Taldykorgan.  She was presented with memorable gifts from AlmaU.

The theme of Almagul Kanagatova’s main speech was: “The New Twenties: The Renaissance of Professional and Personal Self-Determination”.

"The decades have changed a lot in our lives.  Much of what is now reality, 9 years ago was considered almost a fantasy. ”

She recalled how people imagined the future and how quickly it came, cited examples of replicas of such famous people in education as Dmitry Peskov, Tatyana Chernigovskaya and even the Anniversary report of the Club of Rome.

“Education should “generate interest, release energy, and actively engage each student’s ability to learn for them and help others learn.”

Every modern teacher must develop a culture of continuous improvement and relevant competencies; should be ready for changes, enjoy them and new opportunities; develop teamwork skills and start developing relationships; the teacher must also constantly develop, find and receive new information, share it with others.

“Transformation takes time, consistency and patience”

The program was continued by Elena Mishchenko with the theme: "Student-oriented teaching and learning."

She immediately clearly distributed the roles of teacher and student, of each values and philosophy.

“I believe that Education is a system that is created so that the Student / Pupil can discover the world around him, determine his place in this world and become a significant, creative part of a healthy society.  Therefore, Education requires the development of critical and creative thinking, integration into the life of the Student / Pupil, capable of making the right decisions aimed both at creating his own healthy person and a healthy society. ”

Then she decided to cheer up the participants of the School and conducted group work with them.  Its essence was to determine their own values, as well as the values of pupils / students.  Teachers also discussed the differences and similarities in the old teaching method and in the new approach.

“Education as a system should provide an appropriate / positive learning experience that must be created and improved by the Teacher.”

The second part of the day began with the fact that everyone was divided into 2 groups: school teachers and university teachers.  The first went to the training seminar of Khalida Azhigulova on the topic: "Tools for finding solutions to problems", and the second to Ayimgul Tleuzhanova - "Author's teacher syllabus: unpacking and packaging of content."

Khalida Azhigulova shared the model “The 4 E-model”: Explore - Involve - Detail - Rate.  She spoke in detail about the problem-solving algorithm, about how to conduct a qualitative analysis, its tools (Stakeholder Analysis, Problem Tree - Task Tree, Process Analysis, SWOT).  And the most useful was that the speaker demonstrated everything on specific cases and even helped to sort out the existing problems of teachers.

The aim of the training seminar Ayymgul Tleuzhanova was the formation of understanding, vision that Sillabusya is an integral part of a holistic curriculum for the educational program and a tool for students to formulate relevant, logically built competencies and skills.  On the first day, she tried to formulate a vision of the role of Syllabus in discipline in the system of the Discipline Module, forming a group of competencies for students, graduates and pre- and post requisites for the syllabus being created, which will complement the formed competencies in the Syllabus discipline.  She also introduced the Competency Matrix and helped to work with it in the formation of Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO, Expected Learning Outcomes) for each Syllabus.

At the end of the first day, Madi Bekdair spoke with the theme: “Fashion, style and psychology of generation Z, solving the conflict of “fathers and children”/What should be learned from youth?”  The main message of the presentation was modern education and how important it is to keep up to date.  Indeed, today's youth has a completely different mindset, and in order to be in harmony with them, it is important to communicate with them in the same language.
