Meeting of the Board of Trustees : conclusions and suggestions for improving the work of the university

On 23rd September 2023 there was another meeting of the AlmaU Board of Trustees. The meeting was attended by members of the board, university management staff and deans of AlmaU schools.

This year, Zhanat Berdalina handed her post over to Yerkin Tatishev.

At the start of the meeting, they discussed various questions concerning academic programs, scientific activity, international planning, international relations and staffing. Various important strategic matters relating to the University’s development were also discussed.

As part of the transformation declared ‘AlmaU 2.0’, the new chairman was asked to re-evaluate the approach to the University’s reporting to the Board of Trustees. On 23rd September, the same day, the Management Report was presented, where every department Head presented a report on the work accomplished, as well as plans for work in the coming academic year.

The Vice-Rector for Academic Development, Assel Aryn, presented a full report on the university’s academic programs, and unveiled the new AlmaU School of Transformative Humanities.

The Vice-Rector for Science, Bakytzhan Kurmanbayuly, shared the amendments and proposals for teaching staff wanting to conduct scientific research. The university provides technical help (by way of inquiries) to academics studying science, and KPI has been implemented as motivation.

This year the university received international CEEMAN re-accreditation, valid until 2029. Assylbek Bazarbaevich was awarded for outstanding cooperation with PRME as a member of the PRME Board. Also, Ksenia Yuzhaninova-Karadenizli, executive director of the AlmaU School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation joined the Babson Collaborative for Entrepreneurship Education Advisory Board. The student club AlmaU SDG Legion became one of the top 3 student collectives in the world. Almaty Management University received results in all 17 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and ranked 801-1000 among higher education institutions in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023. The Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships, Aigerim Kaumenova also discussed the university’s other achievements.

The Vice-Rector for Student Support and Development, Didar Mardanov, shared the ongoing work to support students: “AlmaU students are some of the most sought-after specialists in the market. And their salaries are much higher. In 2023, 75% of students were employed. 62% received job offers or jobs during their practical during.”

The members of the board discussed the results and shared conclusions, after suggesting plans and innovative ideas for improving work in the future. The status of academic programs was analysed and steps for their improvement were proposed. The matter of the university’s digital transformation was also discussed at the meeting.

This board meeting underlined the importance of both collective decision-making between colleagues, and collaboration between members of the board in relation to the development of the university.
