AlmaU discussed the economic potential of Almaty and Almaty region
The World Bank is analyzing the economic potential of Almaty and Almaty region. This was reported on October 24 at the round table by Dmitry Sivaev, an expert in urban development of the World Bank in the Europe and Central Asia region. The round table was held at AlmaU on the theme “Economy of the city of Almaty and the impact of development of transport corridors on the economy of the city of Almaty and Almaty region”.
Invited guests took part in the round table - Dmitry Sivaev, a specialist in urban development of the World Bank in the Europe and Central Asia region, Azamat Rakhimov, head of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Industrial and Innovative Development of Almaty, Yevgeny Mukhamedzhanov, Managing Director for Finance and Marketing of "Institute of Digital Equipment and Technology" JSC, as well as employees and teachers of AlmaU.
Marina Tyutyunnikova, associate professor, candidate of economic sciences, AlmaU teacher presented a data on the study of the economic potential of Almaty, which was held at Almaty Management University, during a round table. Assel Aryn, the dean of Graduate School of Management of AlmaU, told about the role of the university in building an economically stable:
“Almaty Management University is positioning itself as an entrepreneurial and socially responsible university. Our main value is a partnership for the benefit of society. Now we are actively promoting the idea that a university is not only an educational institution, whose main mission is to train specialists in its field. A university is primarily an institution that should be responsible for the development of the region, for the development of the city where it is located”.
According to Dmitry Sivaev, at the moment the World Bank is conducting research on the issue of Great Silk Road. Since Almaty and Almaty oblast are a transit corridor for the Silk Road, the World Bank initiated an analysis of the economic potential of the southern capital. At the beginning of next year, the Bank will present the results of work to the Akimat of Almaty:
“One of the main conclusions of the analysis which we received is that Almaty is a city that should benefit more from the construction of these corridors. From the point of view of population growth, from the point of view of growth of the total value of land in the city and the influx of economic activity of the population, Almaty is really the center of a new network of transport corridors”.
