Big Data specialty appeared in Kazakhstan!

February 4, at Almaty Management University a new specialty was opened – "Business analytics and global data (Big Data)". The launch and first classes were organized together with famous programmers of Kazakhstan, Arman Suleimenov and Almas Tuyakbaev.

Carnegie Mellon University Almas Tuyakbayev and AlmaU Vice-rector for academic development Gulmira Kurganbaeva congratulated the first students who entered the specialty. These "brave" were 11 people, however, the organizers are confident that very soon they will be much more. It is worth noting that half of the students came to study Big Data at AlmaU from other universities, some even refused the grant, making the choice in favor of a new specialty.

AlmaU Vice-rector for academic development Gulmira Kurganbaeva noted the importance and actuality of the new specialty: "You believed in our dream to open a new specialty at AlmaU, which, in my opinion, will make a breakthrough in the economy of the country. And I think we can call you colleagues, because in a few years we will address to you for writing new programs, creating new ideas, managing IT services not only in our University but also in other companies."

In the classroom the students shared their stories about how they decided to enter the specialty "Business intelligence and global data (Big Data)" at AlmaU.

Ksenia Tyan said that she was supposed to fly to China, but at the last moment changed her mind. Then she entered AlmaU, where she studied "Marketing": "I am a participant of "En factorial 2016", and when I took this course, it seemed to me that programming isn't my thing. But in the end I return toit again. Interesting fact: I am a finalist in the American project "Technovation challenge".

Anel Dyusekenova entered a new specialty, leaving her studies of "electricity energetics" in one of Almaty universities. She learned about the specialty of Big Data from social networks and immediately decided to enroll in AlmaU.

Dinara Shaukharova studied "public relations" before, then she found out about the opening of the specialty "Business Analytics and global data" on the official website of AlmaU. "When there was a competition for the grant, I was selected and entered the English Department. I know about this specialty only that it is big data processing, which is used in large companies such as Kcell, etc."

Madiyar Galymzhanuly read about a new specialty at AlmaU and a competition for the grant in social networks in December: "I have already had IELTS certificate and good grades. And knowing that I have opportunity to get the grant, I applied for it. Since school years I havebeen interested in business. And when I learned that business can interact with Big Data, I was very interested in it. So I chose AlmaU. I believe that this profession has a bright future. Of course, it was difficult to enter because I came from another city. There I studied a different specialty, so to leave everything behind and come here was a big risk. It is my great pleasure to enroll in such university. I will try my best for 100% and meet the expectations of the University».
