Working visit of AlmaU top management to Arizona State University
AlmaU Board of Trustees and top management of University held a meeting at the strategic partner ASU, United States.
The delegation included AlmaU President Assylbek Kozhakhmetov, Rector Gulnara Kurenkeyeva, Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships Aigerim Kaumenova, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Zhanat Berdalina, members Zhaksybek Kulekeyev, Yerkin Tatishev, Andrey Beklemishev and Chin Tiong Tan.
The Board of Trustees held an off-site meeting at the invitation of one of the foreign members, Dr. Ralph (Rick) Shangraw, President of Cintana Education. At the meeting of the Board of Trustees, a new AlmaU strategy until 2030 was presented and approved. With the development of technology, the field of education is also changing, so the new strategy of the university is aimed at building an educational ecosystem and institutional transformation, as well as developing human capital along with the corporate culture of AlmaU.
During the meeting, the results of the first year of AlmaU cooperation with Arizona State University and Cintana Education were discussed, within which double degree programs for bachelors (Global Management and International Trade) were opened. AlmaU students can study for 3 years in Kazakhstan and 1 year in the USA, while receiving 2 diplomas and the right to work in the USA for up to 36 months.
As part of the visit to the United States, Arizona State University working meetings were held:
- Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts (The Sidney Poitier New American Film School)
- The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication
- The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law
- The Thunderbird School of Global Management
- The Biodesign Institute
- The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering
In addition, the Dean of ASU Thunderbird School of Global Management Sanjeev Khagram reviewed the school of global management for representatives of AlmaU. It is worth noting that, according to the Times Higher Education/Wall Street Journal rating, Thunderbird is currently recognized as the #1 best school for Master of Management in the world. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to open the Thunderbird & AlmaU Hub.
The leadership of Almaty Management University traveled to Los Angeles to visit The Sidney Poitier New American Film School, ASU's new film school. The parties discussed the possibility of exchanging experience and knowledge between the American school and the AlmaU School of Media and Cinema.
In addition, the delegation successfully held a number of meetings with EdPlus (online education), Smart City Cloud Innovation Center (supported by Amazon), Dreamscape (unique virtual reality technologies), Decision Theater (an innovative solution for research and analytics).
As a result of the visit to the United States, new activities, initiatives and ideas for joint implementation are outlined. AlmaU will further develop partnerships with the United States and increase dual degree programs for Kazakh students, providing the most favorable conditions for obtaining an American diploma.
