Kyrgyzstan's first President Askar Akayev visits AlmaU for a guest lecture
Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Guzi Peace Prize winner and "Knight of Science and Art" Askar Akayev and his wife Mayram Akayeva visited the university at the invitation of the Founding President of Almaty Management University, A.B. Kozhakhmetov.
The academician visited AlmaU for the first time. He took part in the graduation ceremony and delivered a congratulatory speech. Askar Akayevich wished them not to rest on their achievements and noted that in today's realities it is very important to learn new things throughout life. The scientist expressed his admiration for the values of the university, which are in line with the model of a modern university.
Then a campus tour was held for the guests. Askar Akayevich noted that AlmaU is rapidly developing and is an example of a high-tech, innovative university. He paid special attention to the neuromarketing laboratory.
One of the main events during Askar Akayev's visit was the awarding of the title "Honorary Professor of AlmaU" at an expanded meeting of the university's Academic Council.
The event was attended by public figures, academics, university faculty and management, members of the AlmaU Board of Trustees, students and media representatives.
The session continued with a guest lecture by Askar Akayev on "What kind of education will be in demand in the digital age". In his speech he spoke about forecasts for the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Industry 4.0. Also, the academician focused his attention on labour inequality and the deepening polarisation of labour.
In his report, the professor stressed that today STEM-education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) is gaining momentum. According to Askar Akayev, in the next decade there will be demand for specialists, scientists and teachers in this direction.
At the end of the meeting, he answered questions from the audience and expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and the title of Honorary Professor at AlmaU.
