About globalization, hospitability of Kazakhstan people and China’s perspectives
The 23rd CEEMAN Annual conference “Localization vs. Globalization of Management Development in Dynamic Societies” took place in Almaty on 23 – 26 September 2015. Organizers of the conference are CEEMAN (Slovenia) and Almaty Management University (former IAB, Almaty).
Educational and business-sessions, panel discussions, seminars continue on the third day of the conference.
Jean-Pierre Lehmann, Honorary Professor of the International political economy at IMD and the founder of the Evian group, Switzerland, presented the main report “Globalization in the 21st Century: A Chaotic Transition to Uncertainty”.
Talking about the problems, challenges, tendencies and consequences of globalization for business and business-education, Lehmann said: “In the beginning and the mid-90s the second wave of globalization revealed the new world players – China, Brazil, India. If until this moment PRC was associated with poverty, Chinese mostly worked on low-salary jobs, in service sphere, so from 1995 this tendency has broken. PRC has become one of the main engines and participants of the world economic process”.
“In 60s American entrepreneurs and their transnational corporations were taken as an example, because at that moment they were the leaders. Today we have to learn from China”, - finished the guest.
Yerkin Tatishev, Chairman of the board of directors of Kusto group (Kazakhstan/Singapore), speaking on the session “Business challenges of global vs. local balance and how it reflects on leadership and management development”, highlighted the importance of building the business with human face: “When the business grows from local to global, it is really important to build it according to the interests of the local society. It will be successful only if it satisfies the needs of local population.”
Sergey Myasoedov, President of Russian Association of business-education, showed his conviction that today the supply of players of Russian business education does not satisfy the market demand. However, it is also applicable to Kazakhstan.
Mel Horwitch, Dean of Central European University Business School, Hungary, shared his opinion about trends in the world business-education: “It became difficult for business schools to develop additional education for adults (executive education). .,,In modern business-education we have to apply methods of independent thinking of listeners more often, besides, it is really important to develop new courses based on cooperation between business schools of different countries and regions”.
Almaz Nasyrov, Rector of The Academy of Public Administration under the President of Kyrgyz Republic, said: “Today the world is rapidly developing. Globalization can be seen everywhere and in everything. Today it is really important for business university to be not only local or global organization, but also adapt its own modules and programmes taking into consideration world challenges and demands. For example, taking into account ecological problems and social crisis (migrants, refugees and etc.)”.
The gala-dinner followed after the official part, the theme of which was the celebration of 550th anniversary of the creation of Kazakh khanate, guests were celebrating warm welcome of Almaty Management University, hospitability of Kazakhstan people in total, and were expressing the wish to come back to Almaty, Kazakhstan. “It is our first time in Kazakhstan, but you have shown us everything, starting from the history and culture, ending with customs and food. We tried horse meat and saw how people live in yurts. To see all of this for one coming is amazing! Thanks to organizers”, said Maja Vidic from Slovenia.
This is what one of the guests of the gala-dinner, the editor of the top business magazine “Forbes Kazakhstan”, Armanzhan Baitasov wrote in his instagram account: “That’s why I love our Almaty Management University, that any event is conducted on a noble scale and meaning. Today the team led by Assylbek Kozhakhmetov were meeting delegates of CEEMAN conference, can imagine how many impressions our foreign guests will get after this trip to Kazakhstan”.
On the last day of conference, 26th of September, Alma University organized Almaty city sightseeing excursion for participants. The guests visited Medeo, Chimbulak and Koktobe, admired Voznesenskiy Cathedral and in the end visited Almaty Management University. After the lunch, having divided into 3 groups and they deepen in the atmosphere of the oldest private university of our country: they learned its history in the innovational museum of AlmaU, visited the library, the training courtroom and walked around the business school. They were mostly impressed by our museum, technologies of which catch the interest of our Chinese delegates.
