AlmaU&NIS Talks on the topic “Service Learning”

On December 25, Almaty Management University hosted AlmaU & NIS Talks on the topic “Service Learning”, which was attended by leaders of “Shanyrak” school community and student self-government of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools.

AlmaU Rector Gulmira Kurganbaeva told schoolchildren about “Service Learning” subject, the importance of this discipline, why it should be introduced into the curriculum, and also shared her vision of who the true leader is and what qualities make a person be a leader.

A leader is someone who serves society, not his own interests,” says Gulmira Kurganbaeva.

AlmaU speakers were Rasul Abdullayev, manager of YuFrame vine team, and Daniyar Medetov, director of the business incubator, lecturer in the field of entrepreneurship and strategy, independent consultant in the family business.

During his speech, Rasul Abdullayev told the audience about 5 things about openness to the new. Daniyar Medetov shared his thoughts on what it means to be an entrepreneur, what are the four key cognitive processes in entrepreneurship, and also about increasing the possibility of recognition.

3 NIS students: Akhmetkali Ainur, Abіsh Ualikhan and Bisenbekova Diara - talked about social projects implemented as part of service learning, about social problems and importance of helping people.

At the end, there was a presentation about promising future professions for schoolchildren.

“Service Learning” strengthens the community, providing students with more opportunities for interaction and collaboration. “Service Learning” subject also helps to create more responsible, politically active citizens with a stronger sense of equality and social justice.
